The counterion is determined quantitatively and treated as an impurity in the calculation of the absolute purity of this reference substance. The assigned absolute purity on the certificate of analysis of this reference standard, therefore, refers to the pure atractylic acid. We found hints that there may have been confusion in the literature between atractyloside (article 84195) and 4'-desulfocarboxyatractylic acid (article 85734). 4'-Desulfocarboxyatractylic acid is a derivative of carboxyatractyloside (article 84196).
